Crna boja dakle u zapadnim kulturama izaziva i pozitivne i negativne emocije. Nijanse crne boje nazivamo i tamna boja tinte, ugljena, mračna, zagasita i oniks. Siva boja je hladna i neutralna boja. Siva predstavlja boju bez emocija, formalnu, konzervativnu i vrlo sofisticiranu boju. Često se koristi i u kontekstu prljavosti, dosade i depresije. Tamno siva boja komunicira snagu i misterioznost crne. Svijetlo siva boja je po prirodi ženstvena, dok je tamno siva više muževna. Zapravo je riječ o nijansi crne boje. Siva se često naziva i bojom olova, metala, baruta. Nijanse poput sivkaste znaju kod ljudi izazivati nelagodu i to treba imati na umu pri izboru odjeće.
